Terms & conditions

The rules of staying here, written in plain English. Last updated 9 September 2026.

1. Who we are

First Hostel Bucharest is operated by First Hostel Bucharest SRL, registered in Romania, CUI RO35036937, with the accommodation located at Bulevardul Mărășești 86, Sector 4, București 040256, România, and reception at Strada Bucur 21, directly behind the main building. Contact: office@firsthostel.ro, +40 720 720 720, +40 733 333 833.

By making a reservation or by staying with us, you accept these terms. They apply alongside any additional conditions of the platform you booked through.

2. Booking and confirmation

A reservation is confirmed when you receive a written confirmation from us or from the platform you booked through. Reservations are made in the name of the guest staying; the person who books is responsible for the accuracy of the details and for the conduct of everyone on the booking.

Guests under 16 years of age may stay only when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Please tell us before booking so that the room can be arranged appropriately.

We may refuse or cancel a reservation where the details given are incomplete or incorrect, where the booking appears fraudulent, or where a guest has previously been evicted from the hostel.

3. Prices, payment and city tax

  • Prices are per bed per night for dormitories, and per room per night for private rooms. Breakfast, Wi-Fi and bed linen are included in the price.
  • All payments are made in Romanian lei (RON). Under Romanian law we cannot charge in euros, even where a price was displayed in euros. Amounts shown in euros are converted at the exchange rate applied at the moment of payment.
  • We accept cash, Visa and Mastercard at reception. Prepaid reservations are charged by the platform you booked through.
  • A local accommodation tax applies per guest per night and is collected at reception, in addition to the room price, unless it was already charged by the booking platform.
  • Any extension of your stay agreed at reception is paid at reception, regardless of how the original booking was paid.

4. Cancellation, changes and no-shows

The cancellation policy that applies to your stay is the one shown on your reservation at the time you booked, and it differs between rates and between platforms. Please read it there — a non-refundable rate is non-refundable.

  • Bookings made through a platform (Booking.com, Hostelworld, Airbnb and similar) are cancelled or changed through that platform, under its rules.
  • Bookings made directly with us can be cancelled or changed by writing to office@firsthostel.ro, under the policy attached to your rate.
  • No-show. If you do not arrive and have not told us, the reservation may be cancelled after the first night and charged in accordance with the rate's policy. If you know you will arrive late or on a different day, one message keeps the bed.
  • Early departure. Nights already begun are not refunded.

5. Check-in, ID and check-out

  • Check-in is from 14:00. Check-out is by 12:00.
  • Reception is open 8:00–24:00. If you arrive after midnight, self check-in instructions with the door codes are emailed to you on the evening of your arrival.
  • A valid photo ID is required at check-in for every guest. This is a legal requirement for accommodation in Romania. We are not permitted to host a guest who does not present one. Identity data is processed in accordance with our privacy policy.
  • Early check-in and late check-out cannot be guaranteed and depend on availability. The common areas, kitchens and showers remain available to you on your arrival and departure days.
  • Before leaving, please stop by reception to settle any outstanding balance or local tax.

6. Rooms, beds and allocation

Beds in dormitories are sold individually; private rooms are sold as a whole room. We allocate beds and we may move a guest between beds of the same type where operations require it.

Preferences for a top or bottom bunk are noted and honoured whenever possible, but cannot be guaranteed. A specific bed can only be guaranteed for guests with a medical condition or disability that requires one, and supporting documentation may be requested.

Changing your allocated bed without telling reception incurs a €7 fee, because it breaks the allocation for every guest arriving after you.

The female-only dormitory is reserved for female guests. We do not move guests in or out of it to resolve other allocation problems.

7. House rules

  • Quiet hours are 23:00–08:00. Please keep noise down in the rooms and corridors.
  • No smoking indoors — this includes vapes and e-cigarettes. A designated area is available outside.
  • Illegal drugs are prohibited on the premises, as is excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Only registered guests are allowed in the rooms. Visitors must be approved by reception.
  • Shared spaces are shared. Clean up after yourself in the kitchens, bathrooms and lounge; label your food; respect other people's belongings.
  • Pets are not allowed on the premises.
  • Use the Wi-Fi responsibly. Illegal activity over our connection is not permitted.
  • Treat guests and staff with respect. Harassment or discriminatory behaviour of any kind is grounds for immediate eviction without a refund.
  • Please familiarise yourself with the emergency exits and evacuation routes when you arrive.

8. Keys, towels and door codes

  • Rooms are opened with a numeric code, given to you at check-in or by email. The code is personal to your stay — please do not share it with other guests. If someone asks you for it, send them to reception.
  • Lockers are available in every room. A lost or damaged locker key costs €5 to replace.
  • A towel is provided and must be returned at the end of your stay; a missing towel costs €5.
  • We may change door codes at any time for security reasons and will inform affected guests.

9. Luggage and lost property

  • Luggage storage is free until the end of the day on your arrival or departure day. Bags must be collected before the reception shift ends.
  • Storage for longer than one day costs 35 lei per night.
  • Luggage is stored at your own risk. Valuables, documents and electronics belong in the room lockers, not in stored bags.
  • Lost property is kept for 30 days and can be returned at your expense.

10. Damage, liability and insurance

  • Any damage to hostel property caused by a guest is the financial responsibility of that guest, at replacement or repair cost.
  • We provide lockers in every room. The hostel is not responsible for money, documents or valuables that are lost or stolen when they were not kept in a locker.
  • We are not liable for indirect losses, such as missed flights or transport, save where the law provides otherwise.
  • Nothing in these terms limits your rights under Romanian consumer protection law.
  • We recommend that every guest travels with valid travel insurance.

11. Warnings and eviction

Failure to comply with these terms may result in a warning, a charge, or eviction from the hostel without a refund. Eviction is a last resort and is used for behaviour that endangers or seriously disturbs other guests or staff.

12. Complaints and disputes

Please tell us at the desk while you are still here — almost everything can be fixed on the spot. If a complaint remains unresolved, write to office@firsthostel.ro and we will reply in writing.

These terms are governed by Romanian law. Consumers may also use the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) or the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
